SkyFalling Railgun [Redrawn] by OdysseyWestra SkyFalling Railgun [Redrawn] by OdysseyWestra
[UPDATE] I did some tweaking to have Misaka stand out a bit.

After Reading darkspeeds' tutorial about composition, looked at my last drawing of Misaka Mikoto in my Skyfalling Railgun fanart drawing and realize that I can do better than that. So I took my original file strip it down till it was only Misaka with her main colors. Then I added more lineart detail to her uniform (school emblem, sweater colar and arm holes, and skirt. I added knuckle marking to her right hand and redid the background, lighting effect. Then decided to do cel shading shadowing and higlighting and vala here is the final result.

In the Composition Tutorial, :icondarkspeeds: mention that the picture must flow to your focal point. Since the focal point was her right arm about to fire her railgun, and her body was at an arch, I decided to use circles as my composition. So the lighting effects wer in a cirlce around the coin to show eleltrical buildup, and the clouds also cirlced around that area. So compared to my original Fanart Drawing fav.me/d62j5yy, this one came out way better. So what are your guys thought about it? Well anyways, I going to get to bed for well needed sleep and you have a wonderful day. ^^

Oh by the way I on my youtube page, I did upload a speedsketch of this. Go ahead and check it out here - youtu.be/r8lvKMpSRTk

That and I changed the background and made the lighting effect better than what it was.

Ooo! How every interesting! :)

The first thing that drew to me was actually the girl! She is the one thing that stood out the most in the drawing from first impression.

So it was the coin and hand were the focal points correct?

Anyways I'm always happy to see people trying to implement what I've taught. This is actually not too bad and definitely an improvement from the first drawing!

Keep in mind that the tip I gave out was only one out of many ways to enhance composition. = ) If you want to really teach yourself a whole bunch of neat tricks on composition go to this video: [link] It's one hour long but there is one part where he solely talks about composition and the many ways to create the right balance and focus for your drawing.

From what I see you have too many strong elements that confused my eyes to pin point exactly what I need to focus on - the girl or the hand/coin? (or even the clouds/sky). Why was I confused? The colours and tonal values. Those are just as important as to how you construct your drawing. Try the following as an experiment - blur out or desaturate the background (and half the value on the girl) - see what happens and tell me if you can see the hand/coin better. ;)

Okay I'll take a look at the video. I did adjust the color value and perspective of the clouds and the sky color to make the girl stand out a bit. I guess after really thinking about it, the focus point is about her about to shoot her railgun(the coin). I'll apply this more to my artwork especially my next one I plan to do. Thanks. ^^
